Air Fryer French Toast

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of thick bread (brioche, challah, or Texas toast work best)
Thicker bread absorbs the custard without falling apart.
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk (whole, 2%, or plant-based milk)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, for sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings:
    • Maple syrup
    • Fresh berries or sliced bananas
    • Powdered sugar
    • Whipped cream

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Custard

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Mix until fully combined and slightly frothy.

Tip: Using a shallow bowl allows the bread slices to soak evenly.

Step 2: Soak the Bread

  1. Dip each slice of bread into the custard, letting it soak 15–20 seconds per side.
  2. Ensure the bread absorbs the custard but doesn’t get too soggy.

For thicker bread, soak a few extra seconds to ensure custard penetrates the center.

Step 3: Preheat the Air Fryer

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes.

Preheating ensures even cooking and crispy edges.

Step 4: Cook the French Toast

  1. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or brush with a tiny amount of oil.
  2. Place soaked bread slices in a single layer in the basket. Avoid overcrowding.
  3. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 6–8 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  4. Cook until the French toast is golden brown and slightly crispy on the edges.

Tip: Air fryer times may vary depending on thickness of bread and model, so check for golden color.

Step 5: Serve

  1. Remove French toast from the air fryer.
  2. Top with maple syrup, fresh berries, powdered sugar, or whipped cream.
  3. Serve immediately while warm.

Optional: Sprinkle extra cinnamon or a drizzle of honey for extra flavor.
