Keto Sausage Crescent Rolls

Ingredients

Filling

  • Sugar-free breakfast sausage (pork, turkey, or chicken) – 250 g (½ lb)
    Check label to ensure no added sugar or dextrose
  • Onion (finely chopped) – 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic (minced) – 1 clove
  • Black pepper – ½ teaspoon
  • Paprika – ½ teaspoon
  • Dried sage or thyme – ¼ teaspoon
  • Olive oil – 1 teaspoon (if sausage is very lean)

Optional Add-ins

  • Cheddar cheese or mozzarella (grated) – ½ cup
  • Spinach (finely chopped) – ¼ cup

Dough Option 1 (Low-Carb, Diabetic-Friendly – Recommended)

Almond Flour Crescent Dough

  • Almond flour – 1½ cups
  • Baking powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – ¼ teaspoon
  • Mozzarella cheese (shredded) – 1½ cups
  • Cream cheese – 2 tablespoons
  • Egg – 1 large

This dough is sugar-free, low-carb, and does not spike blood sugar like traditional crescent dough.


Dough Option 2 (Convenience Option)

  • Ready-made crescent roll dough labelled “no added sugar” or “keto / low-carb”
    Always check ingredients; many standard brands contain sugar and are not suitable.

Preparation Steps

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

  1. Heat a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add olive oil if needed.
  3. Add sausage and cook until browned.
  4. Add onion and garlic; cook until soft.
  5. Add black pepper, paprika, and herbs.
  6. Stir in spinach if using.
  7. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  8. Mix in cheese if using.

Set aside.


Step 2: Make Almond Flour Dough (Option 1)

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  3. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt mozzarella and cream cheese together (about 60–90 seconds).
  4. Stir until smooth.
  5. Add almond flour, baking powder, salt, and egg.
  6. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  7. Place dough between two sheets of parchment paper.
  8. Roll into a thin circle, about 3–4 mm thick.
  9. Cut into 8 triangle shapes (like pizza slices).

Step 3: Assemble Crescent Rolls

  1. Place 1–2 tablespoons of sausage filling at the wide end of each triangle.
  2. Roll tightly toward the pointed end.
  3. Place seam-side down on baking tray.
  4. Optional: Brush lightly with egg wash for colour.

Step 4: Bake

  • Bake for 15–20 minutes
  • Until golden brown and firm

Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

  • Serve with scrambled eggs
  • Pair with sautéed mushrooms or tomatoes
  • Serve with avocado slices
